Bolton Castle (boltoncastle.co.uk) Bolton Castle is a spectacular Mediaeval fortress. It was completed in 1399, by Richard le Scrope, Lord Chancellor of England to Richard II and remains in the possession of his direct descendants. The castle has survived over six hundred years of history, including a six month siege during the Civil War and Mary, Queen of Scots' imprisonment here. It is in superb condition, with about three quarters of the building structurally intact and one third of the rooms remaining much as they were six hundred years ago. There is also a garden, incorporating herbs, borders, roses, vineyard and a maze for our visitors enjoyment as well as a gift shop and tea room. The tea room serves a variety of homemade or locally sourced foods and can provide anything from an ice cream to an afternoon tea or a sandwich to a three course lunch.
